At Arawata Deer Farm we have a proud history in the deer industry, establishing our stud from the best genetics selected from New Zealand and around the world. This has given us great success and in 2001 our stud was the first in New Zealand to produce a two year old that cut over five kilograms of velvet.  At Arawata Deer Farm we believe the proof is in the results. 2026 35th Arawata Sire and Yearling Sale

 Our 35th annual sale is coming up on 12 January 2026 at 12.30pm on the farm, Pine Bush, Southland. Three and two-year-old sire stags and 13 month hinds will be available along with two-year-old velveting stags. We have the first and unfortunately only 3-year-old sons from Tayles 8311, as we lost him after one season. They are represented as some of the top stags in this year’s line up especially Lot 1 and 4.

About Arawata

Arawata Deer Farm had its beginnings in 1979. Hinds were recorded right from the early days of the stud and stags were sold for the first time in the late eighties with the first on-farm sale in 1991. We're a proudly owned family stud and we take great pride in producing top quality genetics for our clients

Our Land

Located on the South coast, quarter of an hour from Edendale, our 170ha farm runs 300 recorded english cross red deer hinds and 270 stags in the velvet side of the business. As we run stud animals with the commercial herd we see clearly how the genetics progress in a real-life setting. Coming from Southland, with fluctuating extremes of temperatures throughout the year, our deer also shift well to operations all around New Zealand.
